The CANSSI Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships (CDPF) program is accepting applications until Monday, January 15, 2024.
The CDPF program is one of CANSSI’s flagship programs. Its aim is to develop the next generation of statisticians by providing a comprehensive, multi-faceted training experience in statistical sciences for young researchers. Participants develop foundational skills that are applicable to a variety of careers.
The two-year program includes four elements:
- A major research project (13 projects to choose from)
- An interdisciplinary or applied collaboration
- Teaching experience
- Opportunities for professional development
CDPF recipients receive $70,000 plus benefits annually during their fellowships.
The program is open to recent PhDs (thesis successfully defended before September 30, 2024) in statistics, biostatistics, actuarial sciences, and data science.
A Lasting Impact
Previous recipients have credited their CDPF experience with shaping and boosting their research and career paths.
Kiaqiong Zhao, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at York University, said her CDPF experience “allowed [her] to connect with experts in fields that interest [her]” and credited the teaching experience she gained in the program with playing a “pivotal role in securing [her] faculty position.”
Dylan Spicker, a recently appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Brunswick Saint John, said, “My CDPF gave me the time and resources to pursue my research with far greater focus than I was able to during my PhD. This research largely formed the basis for my job talks, ultimately leading to my position.”
