The Department of Statistics in the Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, invites applications from outstanding new investigators for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. The salary range for this position is $145K–$160K, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Candidates must have a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field and must demonstrate evidence of research success and a high potential to be leaders in their research field. The successful candidate should have a strong record of research productivity commensurate with their experience and will be expected to develop an independent research program in an area that complements existing Department expertise and aligns with opportunities at UBC. The successful candidate will be expected to effectively supervise Statistics graduate students, collaborate with other faculty members, obtain external funding, teach undergraduate and graduate Statistics courses, and actively participate in departmental activities. The Department seeks emerging scholars with experience in Statistics or Data Science. Outstanding candidates with research interests and/or contributions in any area relevant to Data Science will be considered, with particular emphasis on candidates who will complement or extend the Department’s strengths in Statistics and Data Science. The successful candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or a related area with distinguishing attributes grounded in Data Science at the start date of the appointment, and show a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research.

People with experience in Statistical Machine Learning, Computational Statistics, Sampling Methods, High Dimensional Data Analysis, Astrostatistics, Artificial Intelligence or Data Mining are especially invited to apply. Applied experience in areas of applications such as environmental sciences, health sciences, bioinformatics and postdoctoral experience in interdisciplinary research would also be considered an asset.
