Help Shape CANSSI’s Future at the National Retreat

By , In , In News

What programs and priorities should CANSSI pursue over the next six or seven years? How should CANSSI operate to ensure that the entire Canadian statistical sciences community benefits from its activities?

Those questions will lie at the heart of the CANSSI National Retreat from November 29 to December 1, 2024, at the Kingbridge Centre in King City, outside Toronto.

From Friday afternoon to lunchtime on Sunday, participants will form working groups to review established CANSSI programs, consider new programs, assess training and mentoring opportunities, and evaluate operations, including regional centres.

In addition, they will consider how CANSSI can strengthen the Canadian statistical sciences community and increase access to CANSSI programs; how to approach strategic partnerships; and how to manage communications and advocacy.

Overall, the gathering will seek to identify trends, pressures, challenges, and opportunities that CANSSI could or should address in the coming years, along with any operational changes needed to adapt to a dynamic environment.

Part of a Grassroots Consultation

The National Retreat is part of a wide-ranging community consultation that began with an online survey about CANSSI programs this past summer. Input from the retreat will help shape a community-generated report that will inform CANSSI’s next NSERC Discovery Institutes Support application.

The capacity of the National Retreat is limited to between 30 and 40 participants, and the organizing team will aim to ensure that the group includes representatives from all segments of the Canadian statistical sciences community.
