By , In , In News

The entries were creative, entertaining, and funny—and at the CANSSI Showcase 2023 on November 17, the winners of CANSSI’s first-ever What Do You Meme? contest were revealed to the world.

The results were announced by Léo Belzile, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal and self-described “data extremist” whose chief qualification for the role of meme judge was that he is a fan of the xkdc webcomic. He was assisted in his judging assignment by Rafal Kulik, Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Ottawa.

Together, this elite panel chose the top three memes from among 40 submissions by students and statistics researchers from across Canada. Léo indicated that the duo looked for originality, humour, catchiness, and “statistical relevance.”

A fourth “Audience Choice” winner was selected through a public vote. And now …
