Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Queen’s University invites applications for one or more three-year postdoctoral positions (Coleman Postdoctoral Fellowships) beginning July 1, 2025. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to both the research and teaching activities of the Department. Contributions to research include pursuing independent and/or collaborative projects and participating in seminars and other research activities of the Department. Teaching duties typically consist of teaching two one-semester courses per year. The combined annual salary for research and teaching is at least $57,000 CAN. The combined annual benefits for research travel and professional expenses are $2,000 per year.

The candidate’s research should be in one of the existing areas of strength of the Department. In pure mathematics, these include algebraic geometry, number theory, representation theory, invariant theory, dynamical systems, free probability, partial differential equations, and mathematical physics. In statistics, these include biostatistics, optimal design, computer experiments, sequential analysis, shape-constrained inference, time series, and Bayesian analysis. In applied mathematics, these include information theory, coding theory, control theory, fluid mechanics, and mathematical biology.

One or more postdoctoral fellow positions in Probability or the Mathematics of Data Science are currently available in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo.

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to work with Professor Aukosh Jagannath. Potential topics include: the mathematics of deep learning, statistical-to-computational trade-offs in high-dimensional statistics and machine learning, and the statistical physics of disordered media.

Appointments are typically for two years. Teaching is not mandatory for this position, but the postdoctoral fellow may have the opportunity to teach (with compensation) no more than one course in Statistics or Actuarial Science per academic year based on teaching qualifications.

The starting date of the positions is flexible, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The University of Waterloo has a large group of active researchers in Computer Science, Data Science and Statistics, Optimization, Mathematical Physics, and Free Probability who may offer postdocs opportunities.
