Create stronger international collaborations.
This program supports interactions between the international and Canadian statistical sciences communities. It supports visits by leading statistical scientists from around the world to Canadian universities.
- Support Amount: Up to $2,000 for travel-related expenses and an honorarium
- Region: National
- Deadlines: Requests for support should be submitted at least 3 months before the proposed visit
- Eligibility: CANSSI institutional members

Overview
The Distinguished Visitor Program supports visits by scientists to Canadian universities. Visits encompass multiple events such as scientific lectures, public lectures, and/or interaction with graduate students. The visits typically last 2 to 3 days.
Who’s Eligible
Applicants
Applicants must be from a CANSSI member institution.
Applicants are requested to:
- Work with CANSSI to arrange live broadcast and/or recording of the events
- Work with CANSSI to advertise the events
- Submit a short written report on the DVP visit, due 4 weeks after the visit ends
Applicants are expected to obtain local support for the event.
Distinguished Visitors
Invited lecturers should be:
- A leading scientist in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or actuarial sciences
- From outside of Canada
CANSSI support can provide an honorarium and costs for travel and accommodation. The amount of support depends on the length of the visit and the support from other sources.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Organizers will encourage completion of CANSSI’s diversity survey, and an event report is due 4 weeks after the end of the event.

CANSSI provides up to $2,000 towards travel expenses and an honorarium. Typically, applications include co-funding by the host university, department, and/or faculty members.
